Swan Lake (1988/2009)

Swan Lake was the first story ballet Tomasson choreographed for San Francisco Ballet in 1988. Since then, the ballet has been a company mainstay, most recently presented in 2017. Tomasson's original ballet featured Tchaikovsky's iconic score and designs by Jens-Jacob Worsaae. Following the premiere, Anna Kisselgoff of The New York Times said of this production, "Helgi Tomasson's completely new production of 'Swan Lake' - one of the most beautifully designed in recent years, now puts the San Francisco Ballet on the international dance map." In 2009, he premiered a new production, featuring revised choreography and new costumes and sets by Jonathan Fensom, an Olivier and Tony Award-winning designer.
